About
What is Toronto Vegetarian?
Toronto Vegetarian is all about making vegetarianism accessible both to vegetarians and those sympathetic to a plant-based lifestyle.
The blog covers everything from lifestyle tips to nutrition to restaurant reviews. Written from a first-person perspective, Toronto Vegetarian’s intent is to capture what it’s like to be a vegetarian without all the frou-frou usually associated with alternative diets.

Who is Sarah Veale?
That’s me! I’m a lacto-ovo vegetarian who’s been meat-free for 19 years. In this time, I’ve experimented with everything from vegan diets to raw food cuisine. If I had to put a number on it, I would estimate about 80% of my diet is vegan. I restrict the amount of dairy and eggs I eat for taste, ethical, and health reasons.
Aside from being a vegetarian, I am a former journalist (read more about that here) who’s spent several years covering environmental, political, and food-related issues for some of Ontario’s largest alternative papers.
I have spoken in the media and to academic researchers about vegetarianism and issues related to a plant-based lifestyle. I have also lectured at the college level and love sharing information and ideas. If you wish to have me speak at your event, or need a quote for your story, please email me here.
